Chinoiserie

This photo of our dogwood against the house reminded me of a beautiful turquoise Chinoiserie chest I saw in Paris. When I am not selling my house in Vermont and wondering what to do with 2500 sq ft of props and furniture, not to mention trying to gain some control of my rainforest lookin' garden AND planning a couple weddings for friends..oh and my day job... I might just find the time to paint my lingerie chest like it. J'adore it!
Isn't it perfection!?

I came across these amazing stencils recently, how inspiring! When we buy our next house I want to stencil these on canvas in our dining room.

When I first got in to interior design I had a mentor, Ruth Dunbar Cushing, in Greenwich. She taught me a lot. Like cherish the things that you love and never leave them behind. She had some antique Chinese wall paintings on canvas, museum quality, that she would move from house to house..dining room to dining room. Wish I had some photos of those, they were exquisite. Anyhoo...these stencils remind me of her. What cherished item have you brought with you from home to home?

I have a "reproduced" bronzed statue of Degas' Dancer at age 12. She is nothing short of gorgeous, and still makes me smile when I walk by her each day. I posted about her, but don't remember the day. I've named her Isabella. I love her.
I have several other treasures, however, Isabella is the star!

Love the stencils!

I like the furniture I have painted myself, with scenes ranging from my favorite pets, to images from a poem and my imangination.
